Now, Add This New Excel 2013 Trio of Functions to Your Version of Excel
Excel 2013 introduced a trio of new functions that make it easy to extend your worksheets to use XML web services. The Excel WEBSERVICE function, ENCODEURL function, and FILTERXML function work nicely together to make the task of working with web services straightforward within Excel 2013.
This functionality is made available in Excel 2010, Excel 2007, and Excel 2003 in the Excel PowerUps Premium Suite add-in for Excel. This can be downloaded for free.
There are many posts and videos posted on YouTube illustrating how you may use the features and seeing how many there are give you a sense for how popular of an addition these functions are to Excel.
The sections below describe the specific equivalent functions available to you.
pwrWEBSERVICE does more than WEBSERVICE
The WEBSERVICE function in Excel 2013 works great — if you have Excel 2013. However, if you need to use the POST method with your web service you won’t be able to use the WEBSERVICE function. There’s good news, though.
The pwrWEBSERVICE (maybe pronounce it “power” web service) function does support the POST method in addition to the standard GET method. Also, the pwrWEBSERVICE function will work on Excel 2003, Excel 2007, and Excel 2010 in addition to Excel 2013.
pwrENCODEURL works the same as ENCODEURL
The pwrENCODEURL function works the same as the ENCODEURL function. The main benefit here is that it works with Excel 2003, Excel 2007, Excel 2010 and Excel 2013 once you install the Excel PowerUps add-in.
pwrFILTERXML works the same as FILTERXML
The pwrFILTERXML function works the same as the FILTERXML function. The main benefit here is that it works with Excel 2003, Excel 2007, Excel 2010 and Excel 2013 once you install the Excel PowerUps add-in.
Have Fun With It – Here are some examples
Now, regardless of the version of Excel you have you may easily extend Excel to access dynamic web service XML data. The links below show a cool example of use.
Make a Weather Report
Create a dynamic weather conditions report in Excel.
Create a Trip Calculator
Using Excel, you can create a trip calculator that uses web services to provide dynamic information that is up to date.

There you go.
This download doesn’t work. Any suggestions? I have MS Excel 2010.
Did I miss a step?
